A Lullaby

by Caroline on July 28, 2009

Amy has this delightful Winnie the Pooh book that is her favourite book at the moment. Apart from stories it has activities in it and a section on shapes, colours, numbers and the alphabet which she is now enjoying learning. At the back of the book are bedtime poems and my favourite is this little lullaby, shown in the book next to a drawing of the character Kanga with her baby Roo. It always makes me want to cry when I read it as it is so sweet.

Good night my baby,
My sweet kangaroo.
You’re safe in my pocket –
And I’m here with you.
Soon you’ll be big
And hop off on your own.
I’ll be so proud
to see how you’ve grown.
But right now, my baby,
My sweet kangaroo.
You’re safe in my pocket –
And I’m here with you.

That little poem reminds me so of Dad who has always said he wishes he was a kangaroo so that he could keep his loved ones safe in his pouch.
