Attitude is everything

by Caroline on February 11, 2008

Have any of you watched the last couple of episodes of carte blanche? They were pretty upsetting as they touched a nerve regarding the severity of the crime situation in this country. They also dealt with this whole Eskom fiasco. This, in addition to some very negative stories from more than one source lately, has made me feel considerably down about the future of this country. I think having a child (especially a daughter) exacerbates this. Since her birth I have been felt consumed with fear and a negative feeling and have had to fight to shake it off. How does one strike a balance so that you are not so pessimistic that you create more problems than there are, but are not so naïve that you bury your head in the sand hoping they will all go away? I don’t know the answer to this, nor to all the problems this country faces or the choices so many people need to make. All I know is that this evening I received two emails, whose messages gave me a different angle on my attitude. I don’t believe this will take the problem away, but the messages reminded me how attitude and our thoughts are everything and ultimately create our reality. The first is from the Angel Connection newsletter and the second from Deva Premal’s newsletter. I will share them with you:
“I have had so many e-mails complaining about the load shedding that Eskom is doing and most of these mails are either very angry or spoofing it up. So we vacillate between the two opposite ends of the spectrum – anger and laughter.
For me, the electricity is symbolic of the light that we as light workers are shining.
The light is getting so bright, that the darkness is most concerned and therefore doing its best to put it out.
We are passionately healing Africa with light.
It is obviously working as the darkness is doing whatever it can to stop it.
Do not be side tracked by what is happening.
We can also assist by using electricity sparingly. Switch off the lights, appliances and whatever else uses energy, when they are not in use. Use energy saver bulbs. Cut down on the loads of washing. Only use your dishwasher when it is full. Switch your geyser off during the day.
When we drive past empty office blocks at night, and see that they have all the lights on, be proactive and phone them the next morning and complain. Insist on speaking to someone who has authority and state your case without being aggressive.
Remember that every thought, word and deed that we think, say and do, we manifest. So, let’s stop complaining and manifest light. Spiritual and physical!
Enough whinging and whining! Enough negative e-mails! You are wasting precious energy sending them and depressing everyone at the same time.
Let’s stand firm and manifest positive energy and light so that everyone benefits.”
- Margi from Angel Connection

“…the thought manifests as the word;
the word manifests as the deed;
the deed develops into habit;
and habit hardens into character,
so watch the thought and its ways with care,
and let it spring from love born out of concern for all beings…
as the shadow follows the body,
as we think, so we become…”

Yes, please be positive. I am so totally a glass half full person – except of course for days when I want to say *^%@ the glass, but there aren’t many. I have family in the UK and Australia and somedays they too paint a sad picture of their countries. I DO believe that together we can be positive and make a difference, I also believe it’s about time the media in general focussed on the good things in this world.
It’s not for nothing my favourite song ever is Imagine

i dont know the answers but i know the world we live in now is a very diffrent place to the one of my childhood. not just in sa but all over. a good positive attitude is the only way to live life. these negativities are all around us and we cant avoid them so taking a diffrent approach is the way to go I think.
So electric free ones… be the light
