6 years is a long time

“Time stands still for no man.”
- Leonard Reiss

It was my 6th Wedding anniversary last Saturday (9th Feb). Thank you to all of you who sent us your best wishes. It was quite a different anniversary as we didn’t go for any candle dinners or drinks, instead we changed our plans at the last minute and spent it with my parents and Amy at the local Spur! Strangely enough though it was very enjoyable.

Many people have mentioned to me how fast they feel the six years have gone and how it feels like yesterday that they were at my wedding. Well, to be honest the six years do feel like six years to me! The reason for this is that I feel like I have done so much in this time and also that so much has changed in my life and the life of those around me in these six years. Life is very different from what it was like then. I have reflected on some of these changes and thought I’d mention them here.

Six years ago I had been back in Cape Town for one year, after having lived in the UK for just over four years. I had spent that year planning my wedding, put my career as a graphic designer behind me and had started studying a BA degree part-time through UNISA.
Today, I have completed both my BA as well as my honours degree in Psychology. I have also qualified as a Yoga Teacher and furthered my qualification with two courses in Children’s yoga. I started a yoga studio from home(built it up from 5 students to 60), taught workshops, did retreats and then at the end of 2006 closed my studio to further my studies. On the holistic side I also completed 3 courses in Indian Head Massage and all 4 levels of Reiki, becoming a Reiki Master. I have taught Reiki courses and have my first Master’s course approaching. On a personal level I have tried my hand at belly-dancing and kick-boxing, published a poem, did a creative writing course, completed a psychic development course and perfected the Tarot. My spiritual practice has grown along with my abilities and knowledge and I feel I have come a long way on my journey. I also realized the dream of traveling to India and of course most importantly, last year I gave birth to my daughter.

A few other changes since my wedding, have been:
My grandfather Edmund Taylor, one of my favorite people, died at age 94 in 2003,
Andy, our Yorkshire terrier of 16 years died shortly afterwards
Craig left scuba diving as a career and retuned to IT.
I have been reacquainted with two old friends and gained new close friendships
We got Winston, our Bull Mastiff
My cousin Andre immigrated to the USA
My friend Wendy moved to the UK
My friend Mark moved to Dubai
My father left Clicks and has since bought two SuperSpars
My parents built their house in Langebaan
My dad bought himself a boat
Craig bought himself a Harley Davidson motor bike, which he later traded in for a Superbike and now a Vesper!
My friend Veronica got married
My friend Tal got married
Most of my close friends became moms
My Aunt retired after a lifetime of working as a PA and also moved house
My brother bought a house

6 years is a life time in so many respects! It’s good to reflect back on what’s been and gone and how things have affected you and made you the beautiful, loving woman (and friend) that you are today!!

Lots of love,

Congratulations to you and Craig on six years of marriage. And congrats on all you’ve achieved in six years. Just imagine how much more you can do in the next 50! On a good day I recon I have 25 – 35 to go, WOW so much can be accomplished in that time – note to self, retain memory.
love

well when you put it that way perhaps it does feel like 6 years.
I think its such a good idea to list our acheivements and life experience over a time period to remind us how far we have come
