Christmas Cheer, Langebaan air and a smile that melts your heart….

by Caroline on December 29, 2007

Well Christmas is over. I hope you all had a wonderful day. Our Christmas was a great success and a most enjoyable day. On Christmas eve Craig and I opened each other’s presents, which has become our little tradition. Craig bought me a stunning Pringle Bag and I got him a Mont Blanc Key ring in red leather. It is for his Vespa (did I mention he bought himself a funky red vespaer? From a Harley to a Vesper! Crazy man) anyway, that evening I set aside two plates of mince pies and two glasses of sherry for the two Santas in the house. I lit the candles in the lounge and played carols. It was all very festive and special. Most of the presents under our Christmas tree were for Amy! This time last year I announced my pregnancy and now my beautiful baby is 4 months old. How time flies and how blessed I am for having this child in my life. On Christmas morning the family all opened their gifts. I thought Amy would still be too young to appreciate it all, but she really looked like she was enjoying the experience and taking in everything. I placed her in the little seat that Pia lent me and she happily sat there with a toy in each hand, surrounded by all her lovely presents, while Craig and I took delight in opening each one. She really is a spoilt baby as she got stunning things and her granny especially spoilt her. Later the family came around and we opened more gifts. I had a bit of an amusing oppsie with my uncle’s gift. I had bought him this short sleeved white shirt with a fine black stripe in it, that I thought he would like and looked smart. I had even phoned my aunt form the store to check the size. In the shop I had draped it over my arm and gone to pay for it. The woman at the counter folded it and placed it in the bag so when it came to wrapping it, I simply wrapped it as is. When my uncle unwrapped his gift and unfolded the shirt he held it in front of him, exclaiming what a great shirt it was. I looked up and from where I was standing I could see the back of the shirt, where previously unnoticed by me, was a huge sketch like image of a skull and cross bones! Not exactly his style. I was horrified at my mistake but could not help from bursting with laughter at my own stupidity. After present time we sat down for a delicious lunch and everyone was in a good mood, especially my husband who after drinking a ridiculous amount of Jack Daniels, had everyone in fits of laughter over his stories. By the time we ate the main course, it was more like early dinner and everyone was in high spirits. A highlight of the day involved most of us egging my gran on to “down” some wine straight from the bottle. My gran is a real lady and very composed and proper. Somehow though by cheering her on, we managed to get her to put the bottle to her lips and take a few sips. It was hilarious and we caught that moment on camera. All in all it was a really enjoyable day. Amy looked beautiful in her new dress and was very well behaved throughout the day. She wore her Christmas hat that my aunt made her and even had a table name attached to her pram seat, to mark the place of the newest member of our family at our Christmas table.
On boxing day Craig, Amy and myself left for a bit of a holiday to Langebaan. It has been quite an adjustment so far being here with a baby, but we are starting to settle in and relax. I even think Amy is now relaxing and enjoying the effect of the Langebaan air. Today she slept more than she has ever done! She even slept with me on the bed for a while. She looked like a little angel, I had her just in her nappy with a blanket wrapped around her and she rested one little hand on me while we slept. She looked too cute. This evening she did not want to go to bed and I don’t believe in sleep training (leaving a baby to cry themselves to sleep) so I scooped her up and sat with her in my arms. I told her Doo Doo very firmly but she was wide awake and smiled at me so beautifully I had to smile back. She kept stretching her head upwards to look at me and just stared at me with a big grin on her face. She then played with a strand of my hair while gurgling away as if telling me a story. She was too cute for words and I felt so loved and adored. I will cherish that moment and remind myself of it when she is 16 and swearing at me!

how fabulous your xmas looks and how spoilt was Amy. deserving I am sure. she looks adorable in her bumbo surrounded by pressies. Its a blessing to have a child at this time of year. It makes you feel all warm and cuddly as they are experincing something new every day. I too dont leave Lily to cry and she is fine. Those special moments like the one you described are just too precious and fleeting.
I am sure all that fresh air and sunshine will tire little amy out no end and a huge growth spurt is on the cards. Enjoy the relaxing post some photos so I can live vicariously. Miss you lots wish I could pop over and have a day there with you

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you!! I keep meaning to phone, but don’t seem to get there, so hopefully my little blog message will suffice. So glad to hear that you are managing to relax and enjoy your time together as a family in Langebaan. I’m sure it’s been just what you’ve needed to put an end a busy 2007. I wish you everything, mostly lots of love and happiness, for 2008. Hope to see you again soon!

Lots of love,
Susie xxx
